Breaking News: Kate Gosselin’s Brother Slams Her In Hearing On Child Labor Laws

Apr 14, 2010 by

Kate Gosselin’s brother Kevin Kreider and his wife Jodi told Pennsylvania lawmakers that the eight Gosselin children have been subject to unfair conditions during the production of the TLC show Jon & Kate Plus 8 in a hearing Wednesday, regarding the state’s child labor laws, and whereas it pertains to reality TV shows.

The kids, according to the Kreiders, were burdened with rooms overloaded with TV production equipment and as many as three crew members present for two to three days at a time. Their privacy was also compromised, the Kreiders said, as the kids were taped during their potty training (even without their parents present) for clips that were subsequently uploaded to the Internet.

One jarring anecdote the Kreiders shared was that “the children were told it was Christmas Eve and Christmas morning when it wasn’t, so that the camera crew would capture genuine reactions. They were only told the truth after the filming ended.  They were told they did it for the show. The children stated directly to use that they felt very confused and were upset over this event.”

The Kreiders also said that because of their fame from the show, the kids have been unnecessarily subject to “disturbing and threatening comments posted on newspaper blogs or TV social media formats.”

Exclusive Excerpts from Kate Gosselin’s Tell-All Book

Apr 7, 2010 by

“She’s not the sweet, humble woman she’s been pretending to be.”  — an insider to Life & Style

Ex-husband Jon Gosselin is heading back to court for primary custody of his eight children on the basis that Kate is neglecting the kids. Now Life & Style can reveal she’s exploiting their children more than ever in her new book.

Life & Style has exclusively obtained a copy of Kate Gosselin’s new book, entitled I Just Want You to Know: Letters to my children on Love, Faith and Family. In the tome, Kate pens a deeply personal letter to each of her eight children. Among the secrets, Life & Style can reveal Kate finally owns up to bullying her ex-husband. “Much of what I said to Jon was unwarranted,” she admits. “I could have watched what I said better, I could have guarded my tongue better. I wanted to communicate better, but I often failed.” Besides not asking for help and berating Jon, Kate writes that she didn’t take enough responsibility for day-to-day planning for the family. “I also didn’t focus on the fact that much of the responsibility for our children, the finances, the schedules and the decisions about the future was on me.”

In her letter to son Aaden, she apologizes for taking away his dad. “I do not possess the skills to father you,” she writes. “But I will do everything I can to show you the way.” And she even apologizes for ruining her once perfect family. Writing to son Collin, Kate cruelly implies that the 6 -year-old has a fear of abandonment — and that her split with Jon has hit him the hardest. “I will never leave you,” she writes to him. “I know that all the recent events in our family structure have greatly upset you, maybe you most of all. When I leave for work, I will always come back.”

On page after page, Kate recounts in vivid detail each child’s suffering because of the divorce. However, Kate doesn’t seem concerned about how her kids will react to the book. “She’s back in diva mode,” an insider confirms to Life & Style. “She’s not the sweet, humble woman she’s been pretending to be.”

Kate Gosselin Loses Control

Jun 18, 2009 by

On camera, TLC’s Jon & Kate Plus 8 star Kate Gosselin tries to portray herself as a supermom who can handle taking care of 8-year-old twins and 5-year-old sextuplets. These exclusive new photographs show that Kate’s composed demeanor may just be a facade. Behind the scenes, she seems to be unraveling. Around 11 a.m. on June 13, a witness spotted Kate, 34, and the children playing outside of their Reading, Pa., home. When Leah, one of the sextuplets, started blowing a whistle loudly, Kate told her to stop because she was on the phone. But as soon as Leah blew on the whistle again, Kate “seemed to lose her temper” and said, “Did you not hear me?” Then she stormed over to her daughter, grabbed her and hit her. “The girl was screaming and crying,” the witness adds. “Kate just pushed her away and walked off with her coffee. Her older sisters were trying to make Leah feel better.”

For years, spanking has been one of the most controversial issues in parenting. Most childcare experts now agree that hitting is not an effective form of discipline. Although spanking is not against the law, Jordan Riak (who does not treat the Gosselins), executive director of Project NoSpank, who has studied the effects of physical punishment on children for more than 30 years, believes it should be. “Spanking can be child abuse,” he tells In Touch. “It has many long-term, lasting effects. It damages brain development in children under 7 and can lead to poor life decisions down the line. It can cause behavior problems, health problems and issues managing emotions.” But in a public statement, Kate shows no remorse for the incident, saying how she disciplines her children in public or private is her decision.
