Work-at-Home Moms Celebrate at First Annual Mompreneurs® Virtual Holiday Party
Scarsdale, New York When you work from home, isolation is a big challenge, especially for moms juggling business and family responsibilities under the same roof. That’s why Ellen Parlapiano and Patricia Cobe (co-authors of the Mompreneurs® series of books) founded the virtual networking community MompreneursOnline.com in 2003. On Friday, December 5th, the conversation will take a festive turn, when the MompreneursOnline.com message board community ushers in a new annual tradition: The Mompreneurs® Virtual Holiday Party, which will be held from 9 am to 9 pm EST.
The online office party gives moms who work in solitude a chance to come together in celebration. “Mompreneurs are so busy making every working moment count, they don’t take time to chill, or acknowledge their successes,” says Parlapiano. “The virtual party gives them an excuse to celebrate the holidays with like-minded entrepreneurial women.”
When moms log into the message boards this Friday, they will see a special Party Zone forum, with features like:
Buffet table: Here’s where resident foodies will showcase their products and talents. Leslie Haywood, inventor of Grill Charms, will “fire” up the barbecue and offer a discount on her innovative grilling accessory. Chocolate-maker and adoptive mom Annika Pfluger, of Red Thread Confections, will display an assortment of her exquisitely decorated organic sweets, donating a percentage of each sale to orphanages around the world. Kaushika Patel of Catalyst Tea will “serve” tea and desserts, flavored with her expertly spiced gourmet blends.
Music & Entertainment: With the help of a flash player set up on the site, singer Cher Klosner Lane will “sing” songs from her Christmas album, Ribbons and Pine, and offer discounts on her latest CD, Stardust Lullaby. Bilingual educator Beth Butler joins the fiesta with Spanish songs from her Boca Beth language learning series.
Stress Busters: On this thread, moms share stay-sane strategies. Home design specialists can reveal shortcut decorating tricks; professional organizers will show how to combat clutter; spa owners offer relaxation tips.
Shopping Center: This is the place to get great deals while supporting mom-owned businesses. Many of the storefronts in the site’s Mompreneurs® Marketplace mini-mall will be offering special sales on party day. You’ll find a variety of unique gifts from baby and children’s gear, to gourmet treats, to jewelry, fashion and artwork.
Goodie Bags: No party would be complete without goodie bags! Here’s where to find a variety of take-home freebies. Jodi Kahn, author of the new crafts book, Simply Sublime Bags: 30 No-Sew, Low-Sew Projects, will demonstrate how to create a cool pocketbook, using staples and masking tape. She’ll also give away templates and books, so moms can make their own no-sew bags at home. Parlapiano and Cobe will raffle off Mompreneurs® merchandise and subscriptions to the Mompreneurs® Marketplace, and there will be lots of other free surprises for lucky guests throughout the day.
