Happy Mother’s Day

May 11, 2012 by

Happy Mother’s day! I just wanted to take a quick second to wish all of the hard working moms a Happy Mother’s Day! We all know that every mom works hard. Wiping faces & booties, cooking, cleaning, getting kids dressed, brushing their teeth, making bottles or taking the time to breastfeed. Picking up all the toys that the kids dragged out on top of laundry from the 5 outfit changes your messy toddler had today.

Let’s get real…it’s a lot of work and sometimes more often than not, exhausting. There are times you want to pull your hair out when the kids are fighting. There are times you just need to go into the other room and take a breath. Everyone is pulling you in different directions. Mom I need this, mom I need that, Mom can you do this, Mom can you do that? Just wait one second! Time out. Breathe.

But…..then there are days that are absolutely rewarding and make you happy & proud. Those times out weigh the stress and make everything worth it. The hand picked flowers, little scribbles that were drawn just for you, mud pies and when they tried so hard to do something you asked them to do. It’s worth it. When their little faces smile back at you. You just know they think you are the most special mommy in the world. They love with all of their heart and you love them right back.

There will be a day when there won’t be fingerprints on the walls, toys on the floor or little scribble drawings that they say is supposed to be a kitty. There won’t be anymore wiping booties, getting them dressed or giving them a bath. The days where they run to you with tears in their eyes because they scraped their knee will be gone. There will be a day, and I’m not ready for that. So for now, cherish everyday that you have with them while they are little. Time flies so fast. Make everyday count as a Mommy and remember you are Super Mom to them.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

Attachment Parenting Controversy

May 11, 2012 by

  Shocking or normal to you?

This weeks TIME magazine cover, displays a 3 year old boy breastfeeding from his mother for an article on “attachment parenting.”

26 year old Jamie Lynne Grumet proudly is an advocate for breastfeeding beyond what age modern mothers feel is appropriate and is stirring up quite a controversy.

TIME reports that this parenting trend has been rising for the past 2 decades. Attachment parenting can be recognized and described by women who breastfeed for extended periods of time, “baby wearing” where mothers carry their babies and are attached to them by slings and co-sleeping. I feel the reason that it is becoming more and more popular is because of the increase in interest of all natural lifestyles. People now are trying to eat healthier and do things the natural way instead of chemicals and anything man made. This includes cleaning supplies as well as food. Women are opting out of vaccinating their children and homeschooling them more than ever.

The image is definitely trending on twitter and people are weighing in on whether or not the photo is disturbing our something beautiful.

Actress Alyssa Milano, who had a baby last year, tweeted “@Time no! You missed the mark! You’re supposed to be making it easier for breastfeeding moms. Your cover is exploitive & extreme.”

The photographer for this shoot, shot 4 different mothers who choose the attached parenting method. With each woman he wanted to capture them in a real way and their reasons for attached parenting.

After breastfeeding for a while discovered how hard it was to wean her son off of breastmilk. Dionna Ford of Kansas City, Mo. stated “After six months, I decided I’d wait until he turned 1,” she says. “But after my baby turned a year old, he was still a baby — not talking, barely walking — and I wondered why I’d stop now.”

So what is your opinion? Do you agree with the attached parenting method or disagree? If they are wanting the nutritional values from the breastmilk don’t you think they would put it in a cup for them or do you think it is all about the bonding?

The 10-Minute Video That May Change Your Mind About Same-Sex Marriage

May 9, 2012 by

This week, as a new Gallup poll shows half of Americans now support same-sex marriage, a self-described shy young man in Los Angeles has released a heartbreaking video on YouTube, telling the beautiful — but ultimately tragic — story of his relationship with his boyfriend of nearly six years.

In the video called “It Could Happen To You,” 26-year-old Shane Bitney Crone shares his story of finding love, only to lose it when his partner Tom died in a senseless accident last year shortly after his 29th birthday.

As horrible as his loss was, Shane says he wasn’t prepared for what would happen next. In only one day after posting the video, it’s spreading like wildfire on the web, and has already racked up tens of thousands of views, and if you have 10 minutes to watch it, you’ll see why.

Shane has also set up a Facebook page called EqualLoveEqualRights and invites you to join him in his quest for marriage equality.
