Beyonce & Jay-Z… trying to trademark their daughter’s name
Just a short while after giving birth to Blue Ivy Carter, the famous singer, Beyonce and Jay-Z started persuing a trademark for their daughter’s name on Jan. 26th. It wasn’t to their surprise that just 4 days after she was born there was already a patent from fashion designer Jospehy Mbeh. Another application was submitted on Jan 20th for “Blue Ivy Carter Glory IV with the purpose of using it for a fragrance line. Both of those applications have been denied due to the fact that the name belong to the famous infant and were assumed that those products were not approved by the famous superstars themselves.
Do you think it is a smart move to trademark you baby’s name? Superstars have superstar ways and need to protect every area of their lives. The application is reported to being an almost done deal because the parents are legally entitled to trademark the names of their minor children experts say.
Designer Joseph Mbeh planned on using the name for a children’s clothing line and never intented on doing this without the consent of Beyonce and Jay-Z. He planned on running the idea by them first he said in a statement after the Feds put a stop to it.
Unfortunately “Blue Ivy” was already patented in Jan 2011 by a boutique in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. The clothing boutique owns the trademark to be used for any website, storefront and anything they please for as long as they want. Lucky them! Their patent was approved even before Beyonce was pregnant. They do have the option of selling the rights to the patent if the superstars make an offer and they accept!
So, little Blue Ivy will not only have mega famous parents, a $600k solid gold rocking horse, a 15,000 Swarovski crystal-encrusted highchair, 1.5 million in other gifts but also a name that no one else can have! What more could could she ever want?
