BRET MICHAELS’ REP: “BRET IS IN GOOD SPIRITS”

Jan 25, 2011 by

Rocker Bret Michaels underwent successful surgery yesterday to close a hole in his heart. He is recovering at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, where the procedure was performed. “Bret is in good spirits and [his fiancée] Kristi has been by his side,” his rep tells Life & Style exclusively.

Bret, who was treated at St. Joseph’s in April for a brain hemorrhage, had a cardiac catheterization, which guided wires and a closure device into his heart. The hole in his heart (called a patent foramen ovale or PFO) is thought to have caused the warning stroke Bret suffered eight months ago.

Just hours before the surgery, Bret spoke exclusively to Life & Style about how he was preparing. “Physically, I’ve been through more blood tests than I care to mention,” he said. “Mentally, I’ve talked to my daughters about it. I said I have to go through this operation, but everything is going to be great.”

Though aware that any surgery has risks, Bret believed he would go through it and emerge stronger: “It’s going to be a positive operation,” he told Life & Style. “It’s actually going to make me feel better.”
